Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon water

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup milk chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla. Add baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, and hot water; mix well. Stir in flour, chocolate chips. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans (I use a cookie scoop) – do not flatten.

Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are just barely browned.

Makes 2 dozen.
